Answer Key

Python · Modules 11–20 · Student wording will vary for definitions
name = "Alice" — Assigns the string Alice to the variable name.
f"Hello {name}" — f-string: put f before the quote and insert variables in {curly braces}.
age = 15 — Assigns the integer 15 to the variable age.
f"I am {age} years old" — f-string converts the number in age to text automatically.
> — Greater than - checks if the left value is larger than the right.
< — Less than - checks if the left value is smaller than the right.
== — Equal to - checks if both values are the same.
!= — Not equal to - checks if the two values are different.
Boolean — A data type with only two values: True or False.
and — Returns True only if BOTH sides are True.
or — Returns True if at least ONE side is True.
not — Flips the Boolean: True becomes False, False becomes True.
if — Runs the indented code only when the condition is True.
Condition — An expression that evaluates to True or False.
Colon : — Required at the end of every if statement line.
Indentation — Spaces (usually 4) that define what's inside the if block.
elif — Short for 'else if' - checks another condition if the previous was False.
Chaining — Using multiple elif blocks to check many conditions in order.
First match wins — Only the first True condition in an if/elif chain runs.
Condition order — Python checks if, then each elif, from top to bottom.
else — Catch-all block that runs when all if/elif conditions are False. else never has a condition - just else: with a colon.
if/else — Two-way decision where one path or the other always runs.
if/elif/else — Multi-way decision with a fallback that runs when no condition matches.
// — Floor division - divides and rounds DOWN to the nearest integer.
% — Modulo - returns the remainder after division.
** — Exponent - raises the left number to the power of the right.
Remainder — What is left over after division, found using %.
import — Keyword that loads a module so you can use its functions.
Module — A file of pre-written Python code with reusable functions.
random — Built-in module for generating random numbers and choices.
time — Built-in module for time-related functions like sleep().
while — Repeats indented code as long as the condition is True.
Infinite loop — A loop that never ends because the condition stays True.
Counter variable — A variable like i that tracks how many times the loop has run.
for — Loop that iterates through each item in a sequence.
in — Keyword that connects the loop variable to the sequence.
Loop variable — Variable that takes each value from the sequence e.g. i or x.
Sequence — What you loop over: a list, string, or range.
