Answer Key

Python · Modules 51–63 · Student wording will vary for definitions
Method — A function defined inside a class.
self — First parameter of methods - refers to the calling object.
object.method() — How to call a method on a specific object.
self.attribute — How to access or modify object data inside a method.
__str__(self) — Returns a human-readable string used by print() and str().
__repr__(self) — Returns a developer-friendly string for debugging.
print(object) — Calls __str__ to display the object as text.
str(object) — Converts the object to a string using __str__.
Encapsulation — Bundling data and methods that operate on it together in a class.
State — The current data stored in an object's attributes.
Behavior — The methods that define what an object can do.
Real-world modeling — Using classes to represent real concepts like accounts or users.
Class variable — Variable defined in the class body and shared by all instances.
Instance variable — Variable set with self. in __init__ that is unique per object.
Shared state — Class variables that all objects can read and modify.
Unique state — Instance variables that belong to one specific object.
_variable — Convention for internal use - don't access directly from outside the class.
__variable — Name mangling - Python renames it to _Class__variable.
Getter — Method that returns a private attribute's value.
Setter — Method that sets a private attribute with validation.
Inheritance — A child class receives methods and attributes from a parent class.
Parent class — The class being inherited from, also called the base class.
Child class — The class that inherits, also called the subclass.
super() — Accesses the parent class to call its methods.
Tuple — An immutable ordered sequence created with parentheses.
Immutable — Cannot be changed after creation.
(1,) — Single-item tuple - the trailing comma is required.
Unpacking — Assigning tuple items to separate variables.
Concatenation (+) — Combines two tuples into a new tuple.
Repetition (*) — Repeats a tuple multiple times.
.count(value) — Counts how many times value appears in the tuple.
.index(value) — Finds the position of the first occurrence of value.
return a, b — Returns multiple values from a function as a tuple.
a, b = b, a — Swaps two values using tuple packing and unpacking.
Tuple as dict key — Immutable tuples can be used as dictionary keys.
*rest — Star unpacking that captures remaining items in a list.
Enum — A class for creating sets of named constants.
Member — One named constant in an enumeration e.g. Color.RED.
.value — The underlying value of an enum member.
.name — The name of an enum member as a string.
Tuples — A tuple is an ordered, fixed-size collection of values. Conceptually, it acts like a single record or row (e.g., a person's name and age), where each specific position holds a distinct piece of related data.
Dict comprehension — {key: value for item in iterable} builds a dictionary concisely.
Merge operator — Combines two dicts into one new dict (Python 3.9+).
zip() — Pairs elements from two sequences together.
Set comprehension — {expression for item in iterable} builds a set concisely.
frozenset — An immutable set that cannot be modified after creation.
Conditional comprehension — {x for x in items if condition} filters items.
frozenset as key — Frozen sets can be dict keys but regular sets cannot.
