Brief feature: originality
How a proposed solution is new or different from existing software, such as unique features, while avoiding copying the work of others.
Understanding Brief feature: originality in VCE Software Development U3O2
What it does: The statement names an existing product and states the difference, which is how a brief shows originality. Original work means not copying others' work without permission, and crediting sources respects copyright. Originality is about what makes the solution new or different. Speed of development relates to time and feasibility, not originality. A unique feature does something that existing products do not. A basic to-do list is already common. The comparison is used to highlight differences and unique features, not to show the solution is the same. Originality can come from a different approach or unique features, even when similar software exists.
Common mistakes: Originality is about how the solution is new or different from existing software, not how it is the same. The line should be 'Originality: what is new'. Using other people's work without permission or credit is copying. Reused code needs permission and acknowledgement, so the line should be 'Reused code: needs permission'.
