Routers
A hardware device that connects multiple networks together and forwards data between them toward its destination.
Understanding Routers in VCE Cyber Security
What it does: This describes the router's position connecting separate networks. This describes exactly what a routing decision is. Routers link separate networks so they can exchange data. Routers examine data and send it toward the right destination network. A home router links the home LAN to the wider internet. A router forwards network data - it isn't a storage device. Routers can support both wired and wireless connections. This is the core definition of what a router does.
Common mistakes: Routers forward all types of network traffic, not just email. Routers actively forward data - they are not passive decoration.
