Intranets
A private network that uses internet technologies but is restricted to one organisation's members.
Understanding Intranets in VCE Cyber Security
What it does: This describes the kind of content intranets typically host. This distinction separates an intranet from the public internet. Only members of the organisation can access an intranet. Intranets are built using internet technologies, just kept private. An intranet is private and restricted, not publicly accessible. Users must log in to prove they belong to the organisation. This is the core definition of an intranet. Being open to the world would make it the internet, not an intranet.
Common mistakes: An intranet restricts access to organisation members, not the whole world. An intranet is private, not open to the public.
