The internet
The global public network of interconnected networks that communicate using shared protocols.
Understanding The internet in VCE Cyber Security
What it does: This describes exactly what protocols provide on the internet. The internet is a global network formed by connecting many smaller networks. Shared protocols let devices worldwide exchange data reliably. An internet service provider gives users access to the internet. Because anyone can access it, the internet is exposed to more threats. Shared protocols are the agreed rules that make internet communication possible. This is the core definition of the internet. Being publicly accessible means more potential attackers can reach it.
Common mistakes: The internet is a network of many interconnected networks, not just one. The internet relies on shared protocols for devices to communicate.
