Known user

A specific person or group, like a classmate, a teacher or a Year 3 class, who will use your solution and who you can ask directly. They are the user, not you the creator.

Understanding Known user in QCE Digital Solutions Unit 1

What it does: The creator (Mia) builds the solution, and the known user (Grandpa Joe) is the one who will actually use it. Saying who the person is by name means you know exactly who to ask about their needs. A known user is a specific person or group you can ask directly. Ms Lee is real and you can talk to her. Naming who the user is makes the need clear. 'People' is too vague to ask or help.

Common mistakes: Mia is the creator. The app is for the known user, Mr Lee, so line 4 should say 'Build the app for Mr Lee'. A known user is someone else who will use the solution, not the creator. It should name a person you can ask, such as 'my grandparent'.

Question 1
A Creator: Mia
B Known user: Mr Lee
C Ask Mr Lee what he needs
D Build the app for Mia
Line D — Mia is the creator. The app is for the known user, Mr Lee, so line 4 should say 'Build the app for Mr Lee'.
Question 2
A Known user: me, the creator
B Ask what is hard for them
C Write down their answer
Line A — A known user is someone else who will use the solution, not the creator. It should name a person you can ask, such as 'my grandparent'.
Question 3
A Creator: Sam
B User: Sam
C Ask the class what they like
Line B — Sam is the creator, so Sam cannot also be the user. The user here is the group of people the solution is for: the Year 3 class.
Question 4
A Known user: Ms Tran
B Creator: Ava
C Ask Ms Tran what she needs
D Plan the app from my guesses
Line D — A known user can be asked directly. Ava should use Ms Tran's answer to plan the app instead of guessing.
Question 5
A Creator: Leo
B Known user group: Year 3 class
