LAN and WAN
A LAN connects devices in one small area like a home or school. A WAN connects many LANs over a large distance. The internet is the largest WAN.
Understanding LAN and WAN in Years 5–6 Digital Systems
What it does: Devices connected in one small area like a school form a LAN. The internet is the biggest WAN because it connects LANs across the whole world. A WAN (Wide Area Network) spreads across cities, countries or even the world. The internet links millions of LANs and other networks, so it is the largest WAN. A WAN connects many LANs together over a large distance. The two schools are far apart, so a WAN is needed to connect their LANs. A home network covers one small area, which makes it a LAN. WANs link many LANs across big distances, while one classroom is a LAN.
Common mistakes: A LAN covers one small area such as a home or school, so lan_area should be "small". A large area is what a WAN covers. A WAN joins many LANs, so it should start as an empty list (wan = []). A number has no append() method, so the next lines would fail.
