Understanding Internet vs World Wide Web in Years 5–6 Digital Systems
What it does: These services run on the internet alongside the web, so the internet is bigger than the web. Websites are web pages stored on web servers. A browser sends a request over the internet to get a page and show it to you. The internet is the huge global network of networks that connects computers around the world. Websites are just one thing you can find on it. A browser such as Chrome or Safari shows you web pages. A web server is the computer that stores the pages. The internet came first and the Web is built on top of it. The Web cannot work without the internet.
Common mistakes: Web and email are services that use the internet. They are not the internet itself. The line should say 'uses internet'. The internet is the global network of joined networks, not a single website. It should be 'joined networks'.
