Form settings that collect email addresses
A form setting that automatically records every respondent's email address, so answers can be linked to a person. Turn it off to keep a survey anonymous.
Understanding Form settings that collect email addresses in ACARA Digital Technologies Years 7–8
What it does: To check who has already answered, the form needs sign-in, which means respondents are identified, so an anonymous survey should leave this off. Reviewing the Settings tab before you share lets you spot and switch off automatic collection that you do not need. The setting works automatically. Every respondent's email is gathered, so each answer can be linked to a person. A progress bar only changes how the form looks. Requiring sign-in identifies each respondent. Once people have responded, the emails are already collected. Check the settings first so you only collect what you mean to. An email address is an identifying detail. A form can reveal who answered even when it has no name field.
Common mistakes: An anonymous survey must not record who answered. Collect email addresses has to be turned off, so it should be form.collect_emails = False. Limit to 1 response needs respondents to sign in, and signing in identifies them. The form is no longer anonymous, so it should be anonymous ← False.
