A testing technique where real users try a solution and give feedback, helping identify usability issues before release
Understanding Techniques for Testing - User Testing in VCE Innovative Solutions
What it does: This description matches user testing, used to catch usability problems early. Time taken is a measurable outcome recorded during user testing sessions. User testing gathers feedback by having real users interact with the solution. Observers note where users get confused, which helps identify design problems. Even a small group of testers can reveal useful patterns and major issues. Measuring how long a task takes can reveal whether a design is clear or confusing. Recording or observing sessions allows the team to review what happened and find patterns. A point of confusion is recorded when a user struggles to understand part of the solution.
Common mistakes: User testing can be done at various stages, including on early prototypes, not only after a solution is finished. Observers should take notes during a session to accurately capture what users struggle with.
