Spyware
Malware that secretly monitors a user's activity and collects information without their knowledge or consent
Understanding Spyware in VCE Cyber Security
What it does: Spyware often transmits the data it collects back to an attacker. Antivirus tools scan for known spyware signatures and flag them. Spyware is designed to covertly track what a user does on their device. Spyware runs without the user's knowledge or consent. Some spyware records keystrokes to capture passwords and personal data. Spyware is designed to stay hidden so it can keep collecting data unnoticed. Spyware can infect any connected device, not just old ones. Spyware is defined by its ability to secretly track and collect information.
Common mistakes: Wrong — spyware is designed to stay hidden, not be visible to the user. Wrong — spyware runs covertly; users typically do not see it running.
