Malware
Malicious software designed to damage, disrupt, or gain unauthorised access to a computer system
Understanding Malware in VCE Cyber Security
What it does: Infected downloads are a common way malware reaches new systems. Antivirus tools scan files and flag those matching malware signatures. Malware is deliberately created to damage or disrupt systems. Malware often runs without the user's knowledge or consent. Antivirus software scans for and removes known malicious code. Malware can infect any connected device, not just old computers. Malware is the general term for software created to cause harm. Ransomware is a specific example of malware that extorts victims.
Common mistakes: Wrong — malware is malicious, not helpful; it can damage or steal data. Wrong — malware does not improve performance; it can damage systems.
