Information Privacy Principle 4

Requires organisations to take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, and unwanted modification.

Understanding Information Privacy Principle 4 in VCE Cyber Security

What it does: Security under Principle 4 covers protecting information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access. Guarding against loss keeps personal information available when it's genuinely needed. Keeping information secure is the core focus of Principle 4. Misuse is one of the risks Principle 4 requires organisations to protect against. Unwanted changes to data are another risk covered by Principle 4. Leaving information unprotected goes against the requirement to keep it secure.

Common mistakes: Line 1 says to leave data unprotected, but Principle 4 requires personal information to be kept secure. Line 2 says to allow unauthorised access, but the principle requires protecting data from unauthorised access.
