Backup systems
A system that creates and retains separate copies of data so it can be recovered if the original is lost.
Understanding Backup systems in VCE Cyber Security
What it does: This describes exactly what restoring a backup means. This describes the purpose of restoration testing. Backups exist as separate copies, distinct from the original data. Testing confirms that a backup can actually be restored when needed. Restoration retrieves data from a backup after it has been lost. On-site backups stay local; off-site backups are kept elsewhere. Untested backup media can degrade or fail without anyone noticing. This is the core definition of a backup system.
Common mistakes: Backup copies are always kept separate from the original data. Backup systems do use storage media to hold copied data.
