The 15 key terms
- 1match the tool to the task
- Choose the program whose features suit the job: a word processor for writing, a spreadsheet for numbers, slides for talks, or a drawing tool for pictures.
- 2Help and tooltips
- Hover over a button to read its tooltip, open the Help menu or type your task into the app's search box, then try the feature on a copy of your file so you can undo any mistakes.
- 3Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+Z
- Keyboard shortcuts that copy, paste and undo faster than using menus. Ctrl+X cuts, Ctrl+S saves and Ctrl+F finds. On a Mac, press Cmd instead of Ctrl.
- 4search operator
- A special symbol or word, such as quotation marks, a minus sign, site: or filetype:, that you add to your keywords to narrow a web search to the results you want.
- 5RADCAB
- A checklist of six questions (Relevancy, Appropriateness, Detail, Currency, Authority, Bias) used to check if information is trustworthy.
- 6Currency
- Checking how recently information was written or updated.
- 7Authority
- Checking who created the information and what makes them qualified to write it.
- 8Bias
- Checking whether information is written to inform fairly or to persuade you toward one viewpoint.
- 9copyright
- The legal protection on other people's images, text and music. You need permission or a licence to use them, and you must say where they came from.
- 10Heading 1 style
- A built-in style you apply to main headings so they all look the same. Change the style once and every heading updates, keeping fonts consistent across the document.
- 11contrast
- How different the text colour is from the background colour. High contrast, like black text on white, with large enough text, makes words easy to read.
- 12Alt text
- A short written description added to an image so screen readers can read it aloud to people who cannot see it. Right-click the image, choose Alt text, and describe its purpose.
- 13different users, different needs
- One digital system can suit one user well and fail another, because users differ in age, ability and experience. Features like read-aloud and large text help.
- 14inclusive content
- Content that suits its audience by using plain language, a suitable tone and examples that include different ages, abilities and backgrounds, so everyone can understand it.
- 15file format
- The type of file, such as PDF, PNG, JPG, MP3 or MP4, shown by its ending. Pick the one that suits your content, keeps the file size sensible and works on your audience's device.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an account?
No. Hangman runs straight from this page — no account, no sign-up, nothing to install. If you add your class names, they are saved in your own browser and never sent to Cloodit.
How do I play it with my class?
Put the page on your whiteboard or projector and press Play. The class calls out letters and you click or type them. Six wrong letters and the word gets away. After every word its definition appears, so each round ends on the meaning, not just the spelling.
Can I use my own words?
Yes. The free Hangman generator at cloodit.com/hangman/ takes any list: one word or phrase per line, with a definition after a dash if you want it shown at the end of the round.
Can I put my students' names in?
Yes. Add your class list and a random student is called for each word. The list stays in this browser on this computer, so it is still there next lesson.
Are the worksheets free too?
Yes. Every module in this journey has a free printable worksheet with a full answer key, and there are crosswords and word searches built from the same key terms.
