Why file size matters
How much storage a file needs, based on how much data (text, image, audio) it contains.
Understanding Why file size matters in Issues in Technology
What it does: Larger files take more time to download than smaller ones. Smaller files save storage space and move faster. Storage space is limited and can run out. More detail and quality means more data to store. Compression shrinks files by removing or simplifying data. Smaller files have less data to send, so they upload quicker. File size matters for text, images, audio and video alike. This is exactly what file size measures.
Common mistakes: Storage space is limited, not unlimited. Large files do need more storage space.
