Word scramble

Unscramble the letters and write each key term on the line.

1
LSQ ROERR
A mistake in an SQL script, such as text without quotes, > instead of >=, AND instead of OR, clauses in the wrong order, a missing table after FROM or a missing semicolon.
2
CIOGL ATEG
An electronic component that takes one or two binary inputs (0 or 1) and gives one binary output (0 or 1) by a fixed rule. Processors are built from many gates.
3
A, B, C NDA X
In a logic circuit, the inputs are labelled with capital letters A, B and C on the left, and the single output is labelled X on the right.
4
RTHUT BATEL
A table listing every input combination in its rows, with the output in the last column. Two inputs give 2^2 = 4 rows, in the order 00, 01, 10, 11.
5
OTN
A logic gate with one input that outputs the opposite value: 0 becomes 1 and 1 becomes 0. It is drawn as a triangle with a small circle and written X = ______ A.
6
DAN
A logic gate with two inputs that outputs 1 only when both inputs are 1; otherwise it outputs 0. Written X = A ______ B, drawn as a D shape, with truth table output 0 0 0 1.
7
X = A RO B
The OR gate has two inputs, A and B. Its output X is 1 when at least one input is 1, and 0 only when both are 0. Its truth table output column is 0 1 1 1.
8
ONT: 1 UPITN, ETROSH: 2
NOT has exactly one input. AND, OR, NAND, NOR and XOR each have exactly two inputs. No three-input gates in this course, so join two gates for three inputs.
9
DANN
A gate with two inputs that outputs 0 only when both inputs are 1. It is the opposite of AND (AND followed by NOT). Its truth table output is 1 1 1 0. Written X = A ______ B.
10
X = OTN (A RO B)
The NOR gate: output X is 1 only when both inputs A and B are 0. It is OR followed by NOT, so the truth table output is 1 0 0 0. Its symbol is OR with a small circle.

Answer Key

IGCSE Computer Science Paper 2 · Modules 539–551
1LSQ ROERR → SQL error — A mistake in an SQL script, such as text without quotes, > instead of >=, AND instead of OR, clauses in the wrong order, a missing table after FROM or a missing semicolon.
2CIOGL ATEG → logic gate — An electronic component that takes one or two binary inputs (0 or 1) and gives one binary output (0 or 1) by a fixed rule. Processors are built from many gates.
3A, B, C NDA X → A, B, C and X — In a logic circuit, the inputs are labelled with capital letters A, B and C on the left, and the single output is labelled X on the right.
4RTHUT BATEL → truth table — A table listing every input combination in its rows, with the output in the last column. Two inputs give 2^2 = 4 rows, in the order 00, 01, 10, 11.
5OTN → NOT — A logic gate with one input that outputs the opposite value: 0 becomes 1 and 1 becomes 0. It is drawn as a triangle with a small circle and written X = NOT A.
6DAN → AND — A logic gate with two inputs that outputs 1 only when both inputs are 1; otherwise it outputs 0. Written X = A AND B, drawn as a D shape, with truth table output 0 0 0 1.
7X = A RO B → X = A OR B — The OR gate has two inputs, A and B. Its output X is 1 when at least one input is 1, and 0 only when both are 0. Its truth table output column is 0 1 1 1.
8ONT: 1 UPITN, ETROSH: 2 → NOT: 1 input, others: 2 — NOT has exactly one input. AND, OR, NAND, NOR and XOR each have exactly two inputs. No three-input gates in this course, so join two gates for three inputs.
9DANN → NAND — A gate with two inputs that outputs 0 only when both inputs are 1. It is the opposite of AND (AND followed by NOT). Its truth table output is 1 1 1 0. Written X = A NAND B.
10X = OTN (A RO B) → X = NOT (A OR B) — The NOR gate: output X is 1 only when both inputs A and B are 0. It is OR followed by NOT, so the truth table output is 1 0 0 0. Its symbol is OR with a small circle.
