The main characteristics of AI together
The three main characteristics of AI are a collection of data and rules, the ability to reason, and possibly the ability to learn and adapt. Learning and adapting is optional.
Understanding The main characteristics of AI together in IGCSE Computer Science Paper 1
What it does: The list holds all three characteristics, with learning marked as optional, which is how a full exam answer should read. The rule uses stored data (road closed) and reasons to a new route, linking the characteristics to a real system. Learning and adapting is only 'possibly' present. Data and rules and reasoning are expected in every AI system. The app changes its behaviour based on past results, which is learning and adapting. A collection of data and rules is the first characteristic: the AI stores facts and the rules for using them.
Common mistakes: The second main characteristic of AI is the ability to reason, not the ability to delete. Line 3 should be OUTPUT "2 Ability to reason". The total number of characteristics is the required ones (data and rules, reasoning) plus the optional one (learning). It must use + not -, giving 3.
