Static IP address
An IP address that is set once, usually by hand, and stays the same every time the device connects, so the device always has a predictable address.
Understanding Static IP address in IGCSE Computer Science Paper 1
What it does: The same address appears on both days, showing that a static IP address stays the same every time the device connects. Choosing Manual and typing in the address is how a static IP address is set once by hand. A server needs a predictable address so other devices can always find it. A visitor's phone can use any address. A static address does not change, so the printer keeps 192.168.1.50 after a restart.
Common mistakes: A static IP address is set manually by a person, not automatically by the network. Line 4 should be setBy ← "manual". An address that is set once and kept is a static IP address, not a dynamic one. Line 2 should be type ← "static".
