Explaining what each part does in a sentence

A short sentence that names a part, says its job and how it helps the next part. It uses a starter like 'The CPU is the...' and the word 'because' to explain.

Understanding Explaining what each part does in a sentence in ACARA Digital Technologies Years 5–6

What it does: The starter 'The RAM is the... because...' names the part, gives its job, and uses an everyday example (a desk) to explain it. It names a part of a phone, says its job (sends the tap), and says how it helps the next part (the CPU). Short, clear sentences with a starter and 'because' make your explanation easy to follow. A speaker sends information out to you as sound, so it is an output device. A good example explains the job of the part. Roads connect places, just like the motherboard connects parts. The first sentence names the screen, gives its job (output) and explains why. The second does not say what the screen does.

Common mistakes: Showing pictures is the job of the screen, which is an output part. The CPU runs the apps, so the line should say 'The CPU runs the apps.'. Storage is for keeping files, even when the power is off. It should say 'The storage keeps files safe.'.

The screen shows the picture so the player can see the game. → Names an output part, says what it does and how that helps the next step: the player sees the game.
Use a sentence starter to name a part and explain its job with 'because' → The RAM is the desk because it holds what the CPU is using now.
Describe a part of a phone and say how it helps the next part → The touchscreen sends my tap to the CPU so the phone can respond.
The CPU is a part. → It names the part but does not say its job or how it helps the next part. It has no 'because'.
