The Essential Eight

A set of eight baseline security strategies created by the Australian government to help reduce the risk of cyber security incidents.

Understanding The Essential Eight in VCE Cyber Security

What it does: Since they're a baseline, meeting all eight is the minimum recommended, not the highest possible protection. Coming from the government gives the Essential Eight its official, trusted status. There are exactly eight baseline strategies in total. Maturity levels show how well each strategy has been put in place. Following all eight strategies together lowers the chance of an attack succeeding. Following only one strategy leaves gaps that the other strategies were meant to cover.

Common mistakes: Line 1 says there are ten strategies, but the Essential Eight actually has eight strategies. Line 2 says it's the maximum protection level, but the Essential Eight is only a baseline, not the maximum.
