Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic)
Victorian legislation that sets rules for how the Victorian public sector must collect and securely protect personal information.
Understanding Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic) in VCE Cyber Security
What it does: Victorian legislation applies specifically within the state of Victoria. Public sector agencies in Victoria are the ones covered by this Act's requirements. How personal information is collected is covered by the Act's rules. Securing personal information is part of what the Act requires. Organisations that fail to follow the Act can face consequences. Agencies covered by the Act are required to follow its rules, not ignore them.
Common mistakes: Line 1 says it is federal legislation, but this Act is actually Victorian, or state, legislation. Line 2 says it applies to no one at all, but the Act applies to the Victorian public sector.
