ISM guideline: confidentiality and integrity of wireless traffic

Keeping wireless data private (confidentiality) and making sure it has not been altered (integrity).

Understanding ISM guideline: confidentiality and integrity of wireless traffic in VCE Cyber Security

What it does: Keeping data confidential means only the intended recipient can actually read it. Protecting integrity ensures the data arrives unchanged from when it was sent. Confidentiality is about stopping others from reading the data. Integrity is about making sure the data hasn't been changed along the way. Encryption scrambles the data so it can't be read by anyone without the right key. Both confidentiality and integrity need to be protected together. Encrypting the data keeps it private even if someone intercepts it. Undetected alteration means integrity has been broken, not protected.

Common mistakes: Line 1 says to let anyone read wireless data, but confidentiality means keeping it private. Line 2 says to assume data is never altered, but integrity requires actually checking that it hasn't changed.
