scores = [] # marks for each student — A comment beside a variable, list, record or class that says what it stores and how it is used, so other programmers can understand the data and code structures.
"""docstring""" — A triple-quoted string placed first in a function or class that describes its purpose, parameters and return value. It is internal documentation.
def get_valid_age(): — A function that runs existence, type and range checks in order, then returns a valid age (or True/False) so you can reuse the same checks for every input.
breakpoint — A marker set on a line of code that pauses the program there when it runs, so you can inspect variables and step through. Set one by clicking beside the line; click again to remove it.
step over — Run the next line only, then pause again. Check the variable watch panel after each step to see which line first gives a wrong value.
# Source: — A comment placed above code you reused that names the source (such as a URL), the author and the licence, so the original work is credited and your own lines are clear.
AI code generator — A tool that writes program code from a plain-language description or by suggesting the next lines as you type. It can save time, but a person must still check the code.
prompt — Instructions given to an AI code generator. A good one states the language, the inputs, the expected output and any constraints so the code matches the requirements.
Check AI code — Read AI-generated code, test it against the requirements and check it for errors, bias and copyright issues before you use it. Then acknowledge the AI tool you used.
low-code development — Building software mostly by dragging and configuring ready-made blocks in a visual builder, with little hand-written code. It is faster to build but limits customisation.
language trends — Programming languages keep changing. New features and languages aim to make software easier, safer or faster to build, such as readable syntax, type hints and safer languages.
