QCE Digital Solutions Unit 4 · Modules 127–333 · Student wording will vary for definitions
request and response — The front-end sends a request (often to a REST API) with JSON or XML data; the back-end processes it and returns a response that the front-end displays.
data exchange — The transfer of data between people, systems or organisations, where a sender and receiver use an agreed format over an agreed channel, such as a bank transfer or sharing records.
data interface — The agreed point where one system gives data to, or takes data from, another. It sets the format and rules of the exchange, such as a file or an API.
Integrity — Data stays accurate and unaltered unless an authorised person changes it. It protects data from accidental changes and deliberate tampering.
Availability — Authorised users can reach data and systems when they need them. Attacks like denial of service and hardware failure reduce it. It is one part of the CIA triad.
data exchange criteria — Measurable standards used to judge how well a data exchange solution protects data, keeps it secure (CIA) and interacts with other systems and users.
completeness — Data is complete when every required value is present. There are no blank fields and no missing records, so everything the exchange needs has arrived.
Data consistency — Data is consistent when the same thing is recorded in the same form (one spelling, date format and unit) and agrees everywhere it appears, including across different sources.
desk check — Trace by hand: record each function call's argument values, follow its statements to the return, then carry the returned value back into the caller's trace table.
DROP TABLE — DROP TABLE name; permanently deletes a whole table and all its records. It cannot be undone. Add IF EXISTS to avoid an error when the table is missing.
