Understanding Writing exam answers about artificial intelligence in IGCSE Computer Science Paper 1
What it does: A full-mark answer keeps the two parts separate: the knowledge base holds facts and the rule base holds the rules. AI is software that behaves intelligently. It does not have to be a robot. Use key terms such as data, rules, reasoning and learning. The inference engine does the reasoning. The screen the user types into is the interface. Use the exact key terms and give a reason. Vague words like 'clever' or 'smart' do not earn marks.
Common mistakes: AI does not mean a robot. A full-mark definition says AI is a computer system that behaves in an intelligent way, e.g. 'AI: a computer acting smartly'. The knowledge base stores the facts (data). The rules are held in the rule base, so line 2 should say 'facts'.
