Tebibyte (TiB)
Tebibyte: a unit of data storage equal to 1024 GiB. The tebi prefix means 1024 to the power 4. A typical hard drive might hold 1 or 2 TiB.
Understanding Tebibyte (TiB) in IGCSE Computer Science Paper 1
What it does: Tebi stands for 1024 to the power 4, so one TiB is 1024^4 bytes. Going from a larger unit (TiB) to a smaller unit (GiB) means multiplying by 1024. 1 TiB = 1024 GiB. Storage units in the IGCSE course go up in steps of 1024. TiB stands for tebibyte. It is a unit of storage measured in bytes, not bits. The order is MiB, then GiB, then TiB. A tebibyte is the next step up from a gibibyte. A typical hard drive holds around 1 or 2 TiB. 1 KiB is only 1024 bytes, which is tiny. 1 TiB is 1024 GiB, which is more than 1000 GiB.
Common mistakes: The value was divided by 1024 to convert GiB into TiB, so the label must be TiB, not GiB. 1 TiB is 1024 GiB, not 1000 GiB. Storage units use 1024, so the line should be gib ← tib * 1024.
