Kibibyte (KiB)
A kibibyte (KiB) is a unit of data storage equal to 1024 bytes. The kibi prefix means 1024, and KiB is the first unit above the byte.
Understanding Kibibyte (KiB) in IGCSE Computer Science Paper 1
What it does: The kibi prefix stands for 1024, so one kibibyte holds 1024 bytes, written as 1 KiB = 1024 B. Each KiB contains 1024 bytes, so converting from KiB to the smaller unit (bytes) means multiplying by 1024. 1 KiB = 1024 bytes. Storage units in this course go up in steps of 1024, not 1000. The kibibyte is the first unit above the byte. The mebibyte comes after the kibibyte. The abbreviation for kibibyte is KiB, with a capital K and a capital B. The unit ladder goes byte, then KiB, then MiB. The broken code puts MiB before KiB.
Common mistakes: To convert KiB to bytes you multiply by 1024, not add. It should be size_bytes = 5 * KiB. Going from bytes to the larger unit KiB means dividing by 1024, not multiplying. It should be size_bytes / 1024.
