Answer Key

IGCSE Computer Science Paper 1 · Modules 450–463 · Student wording will vary for definitions
auto-completion — An IDE feature that suggests or finishes a keyword, function or variable name as you start typing it. It saves time and cuts spelling mistakes in names.
auto-correction — An IDE feature that fixes, or suggests fixes for, simple mistakes like a misspelt keyword or a missing bracket. The programmer can accept the fix, so fewer syntax errors occur.
prettyprint — An IDE feature that shows code in a clear layout, using colours for keywords and indentation for blocks, so it is easy to read. It changes only the display, not the code.
IDE function — A built-in IDE tool that solves one programmer problem, so you match a need (typing, running, finding errors, saving typing, fixing, tidying) to the right function.
point because reason — A full-mark answer states a point with the correct term, then links it to a reason, e.g. a compiler runs faster because the whole program is already translated.
website — A collection of linked web pages stored on web servers. A web page is a single document viewed in a browser, and the web is made up of many websites.
hypertext — Text that contains hyperlinks. Clicking a link takes you to another web page or file. Links join pages together, which is why the web is called a web.
URL — Uniform Resource Locator: a text-based address that identifies a unique web page or file, typed into the browser address bar. It is the address, not the page content.
https:// — The protocol at the start of a URL. It tells the browser which set of rules to use to fetch the page: http:// is unencrypted, https:// is secure. The :// separates it from the rest.
www.example.com — The human-readable name of a website's host in a URL, made of the www prefix and a top-level domain like .com or .org. It is easier to remember than a number.
