Advantages and disadvantages of high-level and low-level languages
High-level is easy to read, debug and portable but gives less hardware control; low-level is hard to read and machine dependent but gives direct hardware control.
Understanding Advantages and disadvantages of high-level and low-level languages in IGCSE Computer Science Paper 1
What it does: This line reads almost like English, which makes it quick to understand, write and debug. Assembly mnemonics and numeric addresses are hard to read, and many lines are needed to do one simple task. Readable high-level code makes errors easier to spot. Low-level code is long and hard to follow. Low-level code is written for one processor's instruction set, so it is machine dependent. Low-level languages let the programmer manipulate registers and memory directly. High-level languages hide these details. A good exam answer gives a reason after 'because', not just a repeat of the point.
Common mistakes: High-level languages give LESS control of the hardware because the translator hides it. Direct hardware control belongs to low-level languages, so it should be "less". The other lines describe a low-level language (not portable, direct hardware access). Line 1 should say level = "low" to match.
