Exploit
A method or piece of code that takes advantage of a vulnerability (a weakness) to attack a system. The weakness is the open door; the exploit is the tool that gets through it.
Understanding Exploit in Years 9–10 Digital Systems
What it does: The arrow order shows the sequence: a weakness exists, an exploit is made to use it, and then the attack happens. Fixing the vulnerability removes the weakness the exploit relies on, so the exploit no longer works. Using an exploit against a system to cause harm is the attack. The flaw is the vulnerability, the tool is the exploit and running it is the attack. Exploits are built for a specific weakness. Once an update fixes it, that exploit usually stops working. An exploit kit collects exploits in one package. It can check a victim's device for weaknesses and try different exploits automatically.
Common mistakes: Python Booleans are written with a capital letter. It should be exploit = True, otherwise Python raises a NameError. An exploit only works if there is a vulnerability to use. It should be 'and', so with no weakness the attack fails even if an exploit exists.
