Bluetooth for short-range transfer
A wireless technology that sends data between two nearby paired devices, such as a phone and headphones, over a short range.
Understanding Bluetooth for short-range transfer in Years 5–6 Digital Systems
What it does: Bluetooth only reaches a short distance (about 10 metres), so a check that devices are close shows its short range. A phone sends sound data wirelessly to a paired speaker or headphones, which is a common use of Bluetooth. Pairing connects the two devices so they can trust each other and send data over Bluetooth. Speakers and headphones often use Bluetooth. Websites from far away are reached over the internet, not Bluetooth. Bluetooth pairs nearby personal devices such as tablets and headsets.
Common mistakes: Bluetooth pairs two nearby devices directly, such as a phone and a speaker. A router is for networks like Wi-Fi. It should be 'pair phone with speaker'. Bluetooth only works over a short range, about 10 metres. A range of 10000 metres is far too long. It should be 'range_m = 10'.
