Attributes of an event
The facts that describe an event: what happened, the date, the time, the place and who took part, like a race at a sports carnival or a bus trip.
Understanding Attributes of an event in ACARA Digital Technologies Years 7–8
What it does: The time is a separate attribute from the date. It records the exact moment the bus trip began. Who took part is a key event attribute. For a match result, it names the teams that played. Place is an event attribute. It tells us where the race happened. A match is something that happened on a day at a place. A netball is just an object. Who took part lists the people involved. A date only tells you when it happened. Each attribute must hold the right kind of fact. A date attribute needs a date value, not the name of the event.
Common mistakes: The date an event happens is an attribute that needs the DATE data type. BOOLEAN only stores true or false. It should be raceDate DATE,. The SQL keyword is misspelt. It must be CREATE TABLE so the database can build a table for the bus trip event.
