Spotting patterns in an encoded image
Something that repeats or mirrors in an image code, like matching rows, a symmetrical picture or a run of the same digit. You can spot it and describe it in words.
Understanding Spotting patterns in an encoded image in ACARA Digital Technologies Years 5–6
What it does: The row has a run of four 1s and then a run of four 0s, which is a pattern of same-digit runs. The digits alternate between 1 and 0, and you can describe this in words as a pattern. All four rows are exactly 0110, so the row repeats. Spotting repeating rows is one way to find a pattern. 1001 reads the same backwards. 1011 backwards is 1101, so it is not a mirror. Row 1 matches row 5 and row 2 matches row 4, so the picture is symmetrical top to bottom. The rows are not all the same.
Common mistakes: The pattern says all rows repeat, so row 2 must match the others. It should be 0110, not 0111. For a picture that mirrors left to right, each row reads the same backwards. 00110 does not, so row 3 should be 00100.
