Explaining safe online habits in short sentences
The linking word that gives your reason. Say what to do, then add because, like: I log out on shared devices because someone else could use my account.
Understanding Explaining safe online habits in short sentences in ACARA Digital Technologies Years 5–6
What it does: The sentence has an action (log out on shared devices) and a reason after because. A clear explanation says what to do AND gives a reason using because. The word because links the habit to the reason for doing it. A short reason helps a younger student understand why the habit matters. The reason should explain how the habit keeps you safe. Because joins what you do to why you do it, so the habit makes sense. Add a reason: I lock my screen because other people could use my device. Start with the action: I use a unique passphrase because someone could get my account.
Common mistakes: The habit must be the safe action. 'I leave my screen unlocked' does not fit the reason that follows. It should be 'I lock my screen at school'. The reason after because must explain the online risk. Eating lunch has nothing to do with logging out. It should be 'use my account.'.
