Contact from someone you do not know
If someone you do not know messages you or asks about you, do not answer. Tell a trusted adult, even for friend requests, questions about where you live, or requests to chat in private.
Understanding Contact from someone you do not know in ACARA Digital Technologies Years 5–6
What it does: The code ignores the request from someone you do not know and then tells an adult. Strangers who ask for a private chat may be trying to hide the conversation from adults. Do not reply, and tell an adult. A person can act friendly and still not be safe. If you do not know them, do not reply. You will not be in trouble for telling. A trusted adult can help keep you safe and can block the person. People who ask where you go to school or live are asking about you, so you do not answer and you tell an adult.
Common mistakes: If someone you do not know messages you, you should not reply, even to be polite. The line should be: do not reply. You should tell a trusted adult about a friend request from a stranger, not keep it secret. The line should be: tell a trusted adult.
