A device that is not on a network
A device that is not connected to a network. It cannot share files, use a shared printer or reach the internet, but it can still run its own programs.
Understanding A device that is not on a network in ACARA Digital Technologies Years 5–6
What it does: A computer that is not on a network has no path to carry the file, so sharing files fails. Programs and files stored on the device itself do not need a network, so they still work offline. The laptop has to join the network before it can find and use the shared printer. Pressing print again will not fix it. Offline means not connected to a network. Online means connected. Without a cable or Wi-Fi, the computer has no connection to other devices, so it cannot share anything with them. Turning Wi-Fi off cuts the wireless link, so the laptop becomes an offline device on its own.
Common mistakes: A device with no network cannot use a shared printer, so can_print_shared should be FALSE. With Wi-Fi off the laptop cannot reach the internet, so can_browse_web should be FALSE.
