Answer Key

ACARA Digital Technologies Years 5–6 · Modules 137–153 · Student wording will vary for definitions
account takeover — When someone else logs in to your account. They can read your private messages, post pretending to be you, or lock you out by changing your password.
combinations — The number of possible guesses for a secret. Each extra character multiplies them, so longer passwords take much longer to guess, even for fast computers.
random words — To build a passphrase, pick three or four random words that do not belong together and join them. Adding a number or symbol between the words makes it even harder to guess.
guessable passphrase — A passphrase others can find out or guess, such as your name, birthday, pet, school, a song lyric, a saying or qwerty. Never use one for an account.
silly picture — Picture your passphrase words together as one funny scene or story. The odd image helps you remember random words, and you can practise it a few times.
strength checker — A tool or quiz that shows how strong a passphrase is. Only test a made-up example in it, never your real passphrase. Read the result, then make a weak example stronger.
keep it private — Your passphrase is a secret. Do not tell friends, type it where others can watch, or put it in a message. Only share it with a parent or carer you trust.
change it and tell an adult — If someone else might know your passphrase, change it straight away and tell a trusted adult. If you used it on other accounts, change it there too and check for odd activity.
screen lock — A lock that needs a passcode, passphrase or fingerprint to open your device, so other people cannot use it when you walk away from it.
Ask, Check, Think — Before you act online: Ask a trusted adult, Check that the sender or site is real, and Think about what could happen if you click or share.
