Quick Questions

Shade in the A or B circle for each question.

1. A script has these blocks stacked: say Hello! for 2 seconds, then move 10 steps. Which block runs first?
A move 10 steps
B say Hello! for 2 seconds
2. How do you join a new block to a script?
A Drop it far away from the script
B Snap it under the block above it
3. Which statement is true about a stack of blocks?
A The order of the blocks changes what the sprite does
B The order of the blocks never matters
4. You want a sprite to say Ready! and then wait 3 seconds. Which order is right?
A say Ready!, then wait 3 seconds
B wait 3 seconds, then say Ready!
5. What does the wait 2 seconds block do in a stack?
A It pauses the script for 2 seconds before the next block runs
B It makes the sprite move 2 steps

Match the Pairs

Draw a line connecting each item on the left to its match on the right.

Left columnRight column
1move (10) steps AThere is no wait block between the two say blocks. Without wait (2) seconds the messages change too fast to read.
2wait (1) seconds BA block that pauses the stack for one second before the next block underneath runs
3Snapping a say block under a move block makes the sprite move first and then speak CA motion block that runs first in a stack and moves the sprite forward before the next block under it runs
4Reordering blocks so say is on top makes the sprite speak first and then move DThe blocks are in the wrong order. The say block is on top so it runs first. Drag move above say.
5Stack: say (Time to go!), then move (50) steps. Goal: the sprite moves and THEN says Time to go! Esay (Hello!) move (10) steps
6Stack: say (Ready?), then say (Go!). Goal: the sprite says Ready?, pauses for 2 seconds, then says Go! Fmove (10) steps say (Hello!)

Answer Key

Stacking blocks in sequence
Section A: Quick Questions
Q1
B — say Hello! for 2 seconds
Q2
B — Snap it under the block above it
Q3
A — The order of the blocks changes what the sprite does
Q4
A — say Ready!, then wait 3 seconds
Q5
A — It pauses the script for 2 seconds before the next block runs
Section B: Match the Pairs
Q1
move (10) steps → A motion block that runs first in a stack and moves the sprite forward before the next block under it runs
Q2
wait (1) seconds → A block that pauses the stack for one second before the next block underneath runs
Q3
Snapping a say block under a move block makes the sprite move first and then speak → move (10) steps say (Hello!)
Q4
Reordering blocks so say is on top makes the sprite speak first and then move → say (Hello!) move (10) steps
Q5
Stack: say (Time to go!), then move (50) steps. Goal: the sprite moves and THEN says Time to go! → The blocks are in the wrong order. The say block is on top so it runs first. Drag move above say.
Q6
Stack: say (Ready?), then say (Go!). Goal: the sprite says Ready?, pauses for 2 seconds, then says Go! → There is no wait block between the two say blocks. Without wait (2) seconds the messages change too fast to read.
Section C: Definitions
Q1
sequence — Blocks snapped under one another run from top to bottom, one at a time, so the order of the blocks changes what the sprite does.
Section D: Fill in the Blanks
Q1
when green flag clicked move (10) steps say [Hello!] for (2) seconds
Q2
when green flag clicked say [Ready?] for (2) seconds wait (1) seconds
Q3
// Wait 3 seconds, then speak wait (3) seconds say [Hi!] for (2) seconds
Q4
when green flag clicked move (10) steps say [I moved!] for (2) seconds
Q5
when green flag clicked turn right (90) degrees move (10) steps
Section E: Spot the Error
Q1
D — Blocks run from top to bottom, so the countdown must go 3, 2, 1, Go!. Line 4 should be 'say 1 for 1 seconds'. A 4 in the wrong place breaks the order.
Q2
A — A script needs an event block at the top to start it. Line 1 should be 'when green flag clicked', so the blocks below it run when the flag is clicked.
Q3
B — The wait block counts in seconds, not steps. Line 2 should be 'wait 1 seconds' so the sprite pauses before it says Boo!.
Q4
B — The sprite would say it has arrived before it has moved. Blocks run top to bottom, so line 2 should be 'say I'm off! for 2 seconds' and the arriving message belongs after the move.
Q5
C — An event block can only go at the top of a stack. In the middle it cuts the sequence in two. Line 3 should be 'turn 90 degrees' so the blocks run one after another.
